Red Wings' home run barrage buries Columbus

Rochester's Clement and Thomas combine for 4 HR, 6 RBI
May 4, 2013

Columbus could not overcome five home runs hit by Rochester as the Red Wings powered their way to an 8-2 win at Huntington Park.

Columbus struck first on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first with the help of a Jeremy Hermida RBI single. The Red Wings then tied it 1-1 on a Brian Dinkelman RBI single in the top of the second. An inning later, Rochester took a 3-1 lead in the top of the fourth on a two run shot by Jeff Clement.

Rochester's Chris Collabello later added a solo homer in the top of the sixth. The Clippers would score a run with a Hermida RBI single in the bottom of the sixth, but the power display would continue for the Red Wings. Clete Thomas cranked a solo homer in the top of the seventh, Clement would hit his second big fly, a solo shot, in the top of the eighth and Thomas would go deep again with a two run dinger in the top of the ninth.

Liam Hendricks (W, 1-2) took home the win for Rochester. Toru Murata (L, 0-2) took the loss for Columbus.

The Clippers and Red Wings will face off against one another on Sunday afternoon in the Arena District. Columbus will tap Venezuelan right-hander Carlos Carrasco (0-0, 2.04) as their starter on the mound. Rochester will send righty Virgil Vasquez (2-1, 4.28) to the hill. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 PM.
