Salazar, Clippers silence Bats

Dominican righty strikes out eight in fantastic outing
July 6, 2013

Dominican hurler Danny Salazar sparkled on the mound as the Clippers blanked the Bats 4-0 in game one of a doubleheader at Huntington Park.

After three scoreless innings of play, Matt Carson helped Columbus draw first blood on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth with the aid of a two run double into the left center field gap. Juan Diaz later added an RBI sacrifice fly to make it 3-0 in favor of the Clippers. Tim Fedroff also contributed with a solo homer in the bottom of the fifth.

Meanwhile, Columbus right-hander Danny Salazar was on his "A" game. The young Dominican righty struck out eight batters in five innings of work, allowing only one hit during his outing.

Matt Langwell finished this game off and preserved the shutout with two scoreless innings of relief. Salazar (W, 3-2) was awarded the victory for Columbus. Greg Reynolds (L, 10-1) suffered his first loss of 2013 for Louisville.

In game two of the doubleheader, the Clippers will go with righty Bryan Price (1-1, 4.94). Louisville will counter with right-hander Pedro Villareal (2-5, 5.62). The second game will start 45 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
