Workman, Pawtucket complete sweep over Columbus

Red Sox righty shuts down Clippers in stellar start
June 20, 2013

The Pawtucket Red Sox capped off a four game sweep of the Clippers with a 3-0 shutout of Columbus at Huntington Park.

The Red Sox got on the board first with a Mitch Maier RBI single to left and an Alex Hassan RBI double to right in the top of the first. They would later add another run with a Maier RBI groundout in the top of the fifth.

In this particular game, Red Sox righty Brandon Workman was nearly untouchable against Columbus. Workman (W, 2-1) blanked the Clippers for seven innings on four hits while striking out five and walking three. The Clippers were held to one hit for the rest of the game by the Pawtucket bullpen.

Columbus lefty T.J. House (L, 1-7) had a decent start on the mound, limiting Pawtucket to three runs on five hits in six innings while striking out five and walking three. Jeremy Kehrt (S, 1) tallied the save in the ninth for Pawtucket.

The Clippers will begin a four game set with Lehigh Valley on Friday night. Columbus will go with right-hander Danny Salazar (1-1, 4.81) as their starter on the mound. The Iron Pigs will counter with righty Tom Cochran (2-2, 5.11). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
