Baseball has run through the veins of Columbia infielder Giovanny Alfonzo since before he could remember. His uncle, Edgardo, was an All-Star with the New York Mets and helped guide the Amazins' to the 2000 World Series. Gio's father also managed and coached in the Mets minor league system for nearly a decade and a half. Much of Gio's childhood centered around New York Mets baseball.
A dream came true in 2018 and the Floridian found himself playing in the Mets system. The journey to Columbia, South Carolina, though featured many twists and turns. Gio explains his story.
