On March 12th, Minor League Baseball - in conjunction with health officials and the Federal government - announced a delay to the start of the 2020 season. Despite the delay, the Fireflies continued to prepare for a rescheduled Opening Night, including revising and updating health and safety protocols.

On June 30th, Minor League Baseball (MiLB) announced that there would not be a 2020 season. This announcement affects the Columbia Fireflies and 159 affiliated MiLB teams across the US and Canada.

According to the statement issued by MiLB, "Major League Baseball (MLB) has informed Minor League Baseball that it will not be providing its affiliated Minor League teams with players for the 2020 season. As a result, there will not be a Minor League Baseball season in 2020."

At this time, we do not have all the answers to the questions you may have as we learned this information just an hour before it was announced. Below you will find answers to some of the more likely frequently asked questions. We will constantly update this page with more information as this process continues and we learn more about the situation.

2020-21 Season Frequently Asked Questions

Does this mean the 2020 season isn't going to be played?

On June 30, 2020, Minor League Baseball announced that there would not be a 2020 season.

According to the statement issued by MiLB, "Major League Baseball (MLB) has informed Minor League Baseball that it will not be providing its affiliated Minor League teams with players for the 2020 season. As a result, there will not be a Minor League Baseball season in 2020."

What happens now that the Fireflies are no longer affiliated with the Mets?

The Fireflies will have a new Major League affiliate from 2021 forward. The teams new affiliate will be announced at a later date.

Segra Park, voted both 2016 Ballpark Digest Ballpark of the Year and Ballpark of the Decade, is one of the top facilities in all of Minor League Baseball and is assured of a place in the revamped Minor League System. Fireflies baseball will be back, and we look forward to announcing our new Major League affiliate in the coming weeks.

Is Segra Park prepared to provide a clean and healthy environment for fans and guests at other events?

Segra Park has always provided a safe, clean and healthy environment for fans during all games and events. We will continue to make the health of guests our top priority and ensure that every possible measure will be taken to ensure the health of guests to Segra Park.

What happens if I have tickets for a game from the 2020 season?

Tickets to un-played games will be treated as if the game was rained out. The ticket can be exchanged for any remaining game during the 2021 season, based on availability. We currently do not have a 2021 schedule, but we will make that available as soon as it becomes official.

Are you still accepting applications to work at the ballpark this season?

Not at this time.

Are the hours of operation still the same for the team store, ticket office and administrative office?

No. The Columbia Fireflies administrative offices will be closed beginning Thursday, March 19. An official reopening date has not been set. Is Segra Park still open for the public for walking the concourse?

Segra Park closed to the public on Wednesday, March 18. An official reopening date has not been set. When this changes, we will notify our community via team social media channels and on our website at www.columbiafireflies.com.

Is there an impact to events already scheduled for later in the year at Segra Park?

Currently, all events scheduled for later in the year are unaffected. Future events will be evaluated based on the situation in place at that time.
