The Columbus Clippers dropped their series opener tonight with the Norfolk Tides, 5-1, at Harbor Park.
The Tides broke things open with a six-run seventh inning, and never looked back, securing the victory to kick off the teams' best of three series.

They were first on the board as well, scoring two runs on a Jaycob Brugman double off Clippers' starter Mitch Talbot in the second inning.
Down 2-0, the Clippers cut the Norfolk lead in half when Eric Haase hit a sacrifice-fly to make it 2-1 in the fourth.
Talbot quieted things down after that, keeping the Tides as bay through the sixth inning. He gave up two earned runs on just three hits, while walking two and striking out three.
Josh Martin took over in the seventh inning and promptly gave up three runs. Mike Yastrzemski started the scoring with a two-run double, which Breyvic Valera followed with an RBI single to take a commanding 5-1 lead.
Henry Martinez then came in to retire the final batter of the inning, but Pedro Álvarez roped an RBI single off him to score another, and Chance Sisco backed that up with an RBI single of his own to add on at 7-1. A wild pitch during the next at-bat tacked on another to make it 8-1.
That's where things would end, as Luis Gonzalez shut down Columbus in the ninth.
The Clippers and Tides will face off tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. in game two at Harbor Park.
