CORPUS CHRISTI - First baseman Jake Adams drove in five runs to lead the Hooks to a 7-5 series-opening win Monday against the Frisco RoughRiders at Whataburger Field.
Adams drilled a two-run, 429-foot home run in (2) in the second off Ronald Herrera to give the Hooks the lead.

Herrera and Hooks starter Yohan Ramirez traded blows, each stringing together seven outs in a row between the second and fourth innings. Ramirez yielded five hits - all singles - with eight strikeouts and two walks over 4.1 innings. He was pulled at 80 pitches with runners at first and second and two outs, but Colin McKee struck out Eliezar Alvarez to get out of the jam.

The Hooks loaded the bases in the sixth against Herrera (L, 2-3) and reliever C.D. Pelham. Adams smashed a bases-clearing double off the wall to make it a 5-0 lead. Chuckie Robinson then plated Adams for a 6-0 advantage. J.J. Matijevic tacked on an RBI double in the seventh to extend it to 7-0.
But Brett Adcock, who loaded the bases in the seventh, found himself in the same situation in the eighth. Frisco took advantage the second time around as Brendon Davis launched a grand slam (3) to suddenly make it 7-4. Alvarez added an RBI single later in the inning, leaving it at 7-5. Carlos Sanabria pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his sixth save, securing back-to-back wins for the Hooks and snapping Frisco's six-game winning streak.
Leody Taveras went 3-for-5 with a run in the loss. Davis added two walks to his grand slam.
Chad Donato (1-1, 3.48) gets the start Tuesday for the Hooks against righty Tyler Phillips (5-8, 5.40). First pitch is 6:15 p.m. at Whataburger Field.
