Dirden Earns Texas League Player of Month Award

Lefty slugger recorded 11 multi-hit games in July for .412 batting average

CORPUS CHRISTI – Hooks outfielder Justin Dirden is the Texas League Player of the Month for July, Minor League Baseball announced Friday. Dirden, also the Houston Astros Minor League Player of the Month for July, batted .412 with 18 runs, 15 extra-base hits, 19 RBIs and 10 walks to go

CORPUS CHRISTI – Hooks outfielder Justin Dirden is the Texas League Player of the Month for July, Minor League Baseball announced Friday.

Dirden, also the Houston Astros Minor League Player of the Month for July, batted .412 with 18 runs, 15 extra-base hits, 19 RBIs and 10 walks to go along with a 1.241 OPS in 22 games last month. He forged 11 multi-hit games in July, including a stretch of seven straight from the 10th thru the 22nd.

Dirden recorded 11 hits in 19 at-bats for a .579 average last week in Amarillo to be named the circuit’s player of the week for July 25-31. The production included two doubles, two home runs and four RBIs. He scored six times and worked three walks against four strikeouts.

Dirden leads the Texas League in batting average (.327), RBIs (73), total bases (213), extra-base hits (56) and doubles (31). The 25-year-old standout from St. Louis is second in the loop in hits (112) and OPS (1.038) while ranking fifth with 20 home runs.

Dirden enters play Friday batting .515 (35x68) with 18 extra-base hits and 22 RBIs in his last 17 games.

Right-handed pitcher Jimmy Endersby (June 20-26) and infielder Enmanuel Valdez (May 16-22) join Dirden as 2022 Hooks to take home a Texas League weekly award. Valdez was also named the circuit’s top hitter in May.
