SPRINGDALE, AR - The Naturals notched three doubles and plated two in the fifth inning Monday afternoon to win the series over the Hooks with a 5-3 decision at Arvest Ballpark.
Corpus Christi's offensive frustrations continued on Memorial Day as the club stranded 10 on base and went 2-for-14 with men in scoring position.
Matt Duffy served as the silver lining, going 4-for-5 with a run and two RBIs. Duffy has driven in 34 runs on the season to lead the Texas League.
Jordan Jankowski made the spot start for Corpus Christi and allowed two runs on four hits in 4.0 innings. Jankowski walked one and fanned four, throwing 50 of 77 pitches for strikes.
Trailing 2-0 in the third, Delino DeShields, Jr., sent a lead-off double down the left-field line. DeShields stole third and scored on Duffy's single to center. Preston Tucker smoked a double past Edinson Rincon in left to plate Duffy, tying the game.
Michael Dimock relieved Jankowski in the fifth and surrendered doubles to Lane Adams, Cheslor Cuthbert and Juan Graterol as Northwest Arkansas grabbed a 4-2 advantage.
Dimock bounced back to retire four in a row before lightning and heavy rain forced a 46-minute delay.
When play resumed, the Hooks scratched out a run in the seventh. Nolan Fontana reached with a one-out single and scored on Duffy's two-bagger into the left-field corner.
The Naturals answered in the home half with an unearned tally against Patrick Urckfitz.
Corpus Christi left two over the final two frames.
The Hooks, who finished 3-3 on their northern trek, open up a six-game homestand against Arkansas on Tuesday night at Whataburger Field. The tandem of lefty Tommy Shirley (5-2, 1.51) and Kyle Smith (1-2, 5.23) face Drew Rucinski (3-2, 2.89) in a 7:10 start. For a full rundown of the festivities, click here.
