Hooks Beat Drillers for Series Win

CORPUS CHRISTI - The Hooks took the rubber game of a three-game series against Tulsa on Sunday evening, defeating the Drillers 6-3 in front of 5,636 fans at Whataburger Field.

Corpus Christi starter Alex Winkelman allowed just a single earned run in five innings of work. The lone tally was a solo homer allowed to DJ Peters in the first inning as the Drillers took a 1-0 advantage.
In the bottom half of the first, Taylor Jones tied the contest at 1-1 with a towering solo shot to left field against righty Mitchell White. Jones' blast was measured at a whopping 452 feet.
The Hooks struck again in the second inning. Ryne Birk walked to begin the frame while Stephen Wrenn brought Birk home with an RBI double. Anibal Sierra produced a run-scoring groundout later in the frame to give Corpus Christi a 3-1 lead. White lasted just 1.2 innings before being replaced by Andrew Istler.
Left-hander Chris Nunn entered out of the Hooks bullpen in the sixth and tossed a pair of scoreless frames while striking out four batters.
In the sixth, Randy César belted his fifth homer of the season with a solo blast to left field against righty Shea Spitzbarth. Cesar now has a 20-game hitting streak, which is tied for the third-longest in Hooks franchise history.
Corpus Christi plated two more against Spitzbarth in the seventh. Alex De Goti laced an RBI single while Myles Straw followed with a run-scoring single of his own later in the inning to make it 6-1.
Ralph Garza tossed a scoreless eighth and was replaced by Erasmo Pinales in the ninth inning. Pinales recorded the final two outs and picked up his second save of the season.
