Hooks Fall to Sod Poodles Friday

Amarillo scores nine unanswered in 12-3 blowout

CORPUS CHRISTI - The Amarillo Sod Poodles went 6-for-11 with runners in scoring position to down the Hooks, 12-3, Friday night at Whataburger Field.

CORPUS CHRISTI - The Amarillo Sod Poodles went 6-for-11 with runners in scoring position to down the Hooks, 12-3, Friday night at Whataburger Field.

After Seth Beer drove a solo homer (3) to the opposite field in the bottom of the second, the Poodles scored 12 unanswered against Corpus Christi pitching before the Hooks added a pair in the final frame.
Amarillo starter Ronald Bolaños (W, 1-0) was impressive in his Double-A debut, striking out eight while allowing just two hits and one run.
Ivan Castillo teed up a two-run triple off Hooks starter Bryan Abreu (L, 3-2) in the third to give the Soddies a permanent lead. Abreu struck out seven, but allowed three runs on four hits.
Yohan Ramirez was roughed up in his Double-A debut for the Hooks, surrendering four runs on three hits and two walks in 0.2 innings. He failed to get out of the fifth after a bases-clearing double by Owen Miller.
In the sixth, Ruddy Giron drilled a bases-clearing triple to break open the score to 9-1.
Kyle Overstreet led the Poodles with a 3-for-5 night including a homer and three RBIs.
Of note for the Hooks, 19-year-old Luis Santana was hit by two pitches, walked once and singled to reach base in all four of his plate appearances.
Frisco's 3-2 loss to Midland Friday kept the Hooks 1.5 games back in the Texas League South first half race with nine games to play.
Cristian Javier (1-1, 2.76) will aim to right the ship Saturday for the Hooks against Amarillo's Kyle Lloyd (2-1, 4.33). The first 2,000 fans at Whataburger Field will receive a Hooks Legends George Springer jersey, presented by CITGO.
