CORPUS CHRISTI – Misael Tamarez permitted two hits and two walks over 6 1/3 innings Wednesday night, leading the Hooks to a 4-1 victory over Amarillo at Whataburger Field.

Corpus Christi, playing Wednesday as the Honey Butter Chicken Biscuits, have won five of their last six games.

Tamarez, who dispatched 13 of the first 14 Sod Poodles, received support in the fourth in the form of an opposite-field solo shot from Justin Dirden, his 11th of the year.

The Sod Poodles quickly evened the score on back-to-back hits in the fifth – the lone knocks for Amarillo on the day.

The Hooks pulled in front with a pair of two out markers in the sixth. Dirden knocked in his second run with a triple to the alley in right-center. Three batters later, Alex McKenna coaxed a bases-loaded walk from Cam Booser for a 3-1 edge.

Deyni Olivero absorbed the tough-luck loss, allowing three runs in 5 2/3 innings.

Shay Whitcomb accounted for insurance in the eighth with a mammoth two-out solo blast to the 400 marker in center. Whitcomb has hit eight home runs on the year, with three coming in his last six games.

Derek West retired the first four he faced, striking out three. West left the contest following a pair of two-out walks in the eighth.

Devin Conn, who has not allowed a run in his last six games, stranded the runners in the eighth and was perfect in the ninth for his fifth save.

Luke Berryhill went 0-for-4 with a run scored, ending his on-base streak at 51 games, which tops the minors this year. Berryhill has reached in 55 of 57 games overall.

The Hooks plan to send Jose Bravo to the hill Thursday night. First pitch 6:35.
