GENEVA, Ill. - Kane County Cougars pitchers Tyler Skulina and Nathan Dorris combined for a nine-inning no-hitter Saturday night against Quad Cities at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark. Tonight's no-hitter was the 8th occurrence in franchise history. The Cougars defeated Quad Cities by a 3-0 count in front of 7,114 fans on "Halfway to Halloween" theme night, and the Cougars continue their strong season with a Midwest League-best 28-14 record and first place spot in the Western Division.
Skulina, a 4th round pick by the Cubs in the 2013 draft, smoothly worked inning by inning, yielding just two walks and hitting a batter. Skulina exited the game to a standing ovation with one out in the eighth inning, having thrown more than 90 pitches. Left-hander Nathan Dorris worked the final 1.2 innings and on the final out, he retired Quad Cities batter Chan Moon on a ground out to Cougars second baseman Danny Lockhart.
Most recently, Cougars pitchers Sugar Ray Marimon and Chas Byrne combined for a no-hitter at Cedar Rapids in 2011, almost three years to the day. This is the first no-hitter thrown by the Cougars as a Cubs affiliate and the first Cougars no-hitter thrown at home since 2008, when pitchers Craig Italiano and Branden Dewing combined to no-hit Burlington.
