Claudio Named Rangers MiLB Reliever of the Month

Closer becomes second 'Dad to take home a monthly award this year

HICKORY, NC - Hickory Crawdads LHP Alexander Claudio has been named the Texas Rangers Minor League Reliever of the Month for the month of May. Claudio is the second Crawdad this year to take home a Rangers Minor League Award, joining teammate C.J. Edwards who won the Pitcher of the Month Award in April.

Claudio, 21, did not allow an earned run over 16.2 innings of work in May, while registering 7 saves. The southpaw limited opposing South Atlantic League batters to a .161 average (9-56) and recorded 21 strikeouts against just one walk. Overall, the Puerto Rico native has gone 3-1 with a 1.22 ERA (6 ER/44.1 IP) and 11 saves over 23 relief appearances with the Crawdads. He has converted 11 of 15 save chances overall for the division-leading 'Dads, tied for 3rd in the SAL. Claudio, who is also one of six Crawdads on this year's SAL All-Star team, was selected in the 27th round of the 2010 June draft out of Isabel Flores High School in Puerto Rico.

The Crawdads are back in action tonight and Sunday as they host the Delmarva Shorebirds for the final two games of the first half of the season. Tonight is T-Shirt Giveaway Night courtesy of Duck Graphics and Big Dawg 92.1. It's also a Community Blood Center of the Carolina's Blood Drive Night, North Carolina Education Lottery Night and Catawba Science Center Night at L.P. Frans Stadium. Sunday evening features the Car Show Cruise-In from 3:45-5:00 pm, while it's Craw"DADS" /Prostate Cancer Awareness Night and Splash Day for the 5:00 pm game.
