De Los Santos Moves to Myrtle Beach

Promotion highlights four total player moves
May 3, 2014

Hickory, NC - Hickory Crawdads reliever Abel De Los Santos became the first 'Dads player to earn a promotion from Hickory this season, as the right-hander has been sent to High-A Myrtle Beach.

The promotion is part of four total player moves for the 'Dads, with outfielder Lewis Brinson going on the 7-day disabled list. Replacing De Los Santos and Brinson on the active Crawdads roster is RHP Josh McElwee and OF Ryan Cordell, both coming from Extended Spring Training.

De Los Santos, 21, was 0-1 with a 1.69 ERA over eight appearances out of the bullpen in Hickory. The Dominican Republic native struck out 12 and walked only one over his 10.2 IP, while also holding opponents to a .179 batting average against.

McElwee, 24, returns to Hickory after pitching in 11 games for the Crawdads in 2013. A 20th round selection by the Texas Rangers in the 2012 draft out of the University of South Carolina-Sumter, McElwee went 2-1 with a 10.13 ERA for the 'Dads before going 3-2 with a 1.04 ERA in Myrtle Beach to end the season.

Cordell, 22, comes to the Crawdads after hitting .241 with five home runs and 23 RBIs for short-season Spokane in 2013. The 6'4" 205-pound outfielder also led the Indians and ranked in the top five in the Northwest League with 19 stolen bases in 23 attempts.

The Crawdads are in the midst of a 6-game road trip that saw the team split a doubleheader in Hagerstown before winning their first game in Kannapolis on Friday. The 'Dads will return home for a 7-game home stand on May 7th.
