NILES, OH- The Cutters show off fireworks of their own in an 11-6 win on the road on the Fourth of July.
For Crosscutters starter Julio Reyes, tonight wasn't just a spot start out of the bullpen; it was his first start since he was with the Dominican Summer League Phillies. Reyes attacked the zone early and often. Reyes would strike out six in four innings of work.
Williamsport Crosscutters second baseman, Andrew Pullin, entered tonight's game on a five-game winning streak. Pullin would extend his streak to six games with a 1st inning triple to right-centerfield.
Williamsport was able strike in the 2nd inning.
Gabriel Lino served a single into centerfield with one out. Samuel Hiciano would draw a two out walk to give the Cutters two on with two out. Justin Parr would give the Cutters a 1-0 lead with an RBI double to right-centerfield. An error by Scrappers third basemen Robel Garcia on a ball hit by Malquin Canelo that allowed Hiciano to score and make it 2-0. Gustavo Martinez capped the scoring with a two-out single into centerfield that scored Canelo to make it 3-0.
The Cutters sticks stayed hot in in the top of the 3rd inning.
Andrew Pullin reached on an error by the second basemen Claudio Bautista. Dylan Cozens followed with a two-run missile (3) into the Scrappers bullpen in right to make it 5-0 Cutters. Zach Green would double on the very next pitch to right-centerfield. Green would score to make it 6-0 Cutters on an RBI single by Logan Pierce down the first base line.
Mahoning Valley would get on the board in the bottom of the third inning on an inside-the-park home run by centerfielder Cody Ferrell to make it 6-1.
Gustavo Martinez led off the 4th inning with a single and then proceeded to steal 2nd base. Martinez would score to make it a 7-1 Cutters lead when Andrew Pullin drove Robert Whitenack offering into center.
Robert Whitenack was replaced by Kerry Doane in the 5th inning.
Doane was welcomed rudely by Cutters first basemen Logan Pierce who hit a towering home run (2) over the rightfield wall to make it 8-1.
Julio Reyes was replaced by Chris Nichols in the 5th inning.
Nichols would work two scoreless innings before being replace by Mark Meadors in the 7th.
Williamsport added on in the 8th inning. Justin Parr led off the inning with a triple and was driven in by a one out single by Andrew Pullin to make it 9-1.
Mahoning Valley would get to Cutters pitcher Mark Meadors in the 8th inning for four runs, including a two-run single by James Roberts with one out.
In the 9th inning Williamsport would get back on the scoreboard without a hit. Back-to-back one-out walks drawn by Hiciano and Canelo would turn into a run on an error by second basemen Claudio Bautista to make it 10-5 Cutters. Jiandido Tromp would hit into a fielder's choice that would allow Canelo to score and make it 11-5.
Lino Martinez entered in the 9th inning for the Cutters. He would allow one run on a Juan Romero leadoff home run over the left-centerfield wall to make it 11-6. Martinez would work out of the inning to close out the win for the Cutters.
Cutters Carvings: Chris Nichols spent time with the Williamsport Crosscutters during the 2012 season… Mark Meadors was a 21st round selection of the Phillies in the 2013 Draft… The Cutters had six extra base hits tonight… The Cutters have 15 extra base hits in their last four games...
