Cutters Drop Series Opener Against Tri-City

The Crosscutters gave up 17 hits to the Tri-City Valley Cats and dropped the opener of a 3-game series Saturday night at Susquehanna Bank Park at Bowman Field 9-5.

Cutters starting pitcher Alejandro Arteaga (1-3) only lasted three innings, allowing five runs on nine hits, while striking out two.

Bryan Sova managed to give the Cutters bullpen some stability by going three innings allowing just one run on five hits and a strike out.

Jesen Therrien made his Crosscutters debut and allowed three runs on three hits, a walk and struck out three in two innings of work.

The Cutters offense was held to just one hit until the seventh inning when they scored four runs on a two out, 2-run double by Emmanuel Marrero. Cord Sandberg struck out one batter later but reached on a throwing error by the catcher which allowed Stankiewicz and Marrero to score.

Aaron Brown led off the bottom of the eighth with a towering homerun that cleared the scoreboard to make the score 9-5, but the Crosscutters drew no closer the rest of the night.

Crosscutters reliever Keivi Rojas came on for a 1-2-3 ninth.

The series continues Sunday, July 13 with Bark in the Park XVI, along with Selinsgrove/Sunbury night and Baseball Bingo.

The home stand concludes on Monday, July 14 with the Crosscutters Team Photo Giveaway, plus Military Monday and Hoss's Knothole Gang night.

Cutters Carvings: Matt Shortall was the only Crosscutter with two hits as he went 2 for 4 with a pair of singles and a run scored… Aaron Brown led off the bottom of the eighth with his second home run of the season… Keivi Rojas pitched another scoreless inning with a 1-2-3 ninth…Emmanuel Marrero hit a 2-run double in the seventh inning…
