Thursday night at Susquehanna Bank Park at Historic Bowman Field the Cutters salvaged the finale of their 3-game series with the Batavia Muckdogs 9-1.
The Crosscutters offense got started early and often against Batavia starting pitcher Gabriel Castellanos.
In the bottom of the second inning, with one out, Wilmer Oberto singled to right field, two batters later Jan Hernandez tripled to right field and Oberto scored, right fielder Ryan Aper tried to throw out Hernandez at third and the throw ended up in the Batavia dugout allowing Hernandez to score making it 2-0 Cutters.
In the bottom of the third, Cord Sandberg drew a one out walk. Jiandido Tromp singled to right field followed by a Wilson Garcia double to left field scoring Sandberg and the Cutters led 3-0.
Rhys Hoskins then walked to load the bases and Wilmer Oberto hit a bases clearing double to center field scoring Tromp, Garcia and Hoskins and the Cutters led 6-0 after three innings.
Cutters starting pitcher Ricardo Pinto (1-3) picked up his first win of the season going six innings allowing one run on four hits, two walks and three strikeouts.
The Cutters added on late with a 3-run eighth inning powered by Wilmer Oberto's first home run in a Crosscutters uniform. He was followed by Deivi Grullon who walked and Robinson Torres who singled to right center. Two batters later Cord Sandberg delivered a two out, two run single that scored both runners to make the final 9-1 Cutters.
The last time the Cutters scored at least six runs was on July 22 verses Batavia in a 6-5 win.
With the win the Cutters even the season series with Batavia (4-4) and head out on the road tomorrow to face the Mahoning Valley Scrappers in a 3-game series ahead of the 2-day NYPL All-Star break. The win by the Cutters (26-33) also snapped a four game losing streak.
