BATAVIA, NY - Julio Reyes' season high nine strike outs lead a strong outing by the Cutters pitching staff in a 1-0 win over Batavia.
Williamsport would back a great start by Julio Reyes by taking advantage of a defensive mistake in the 7th inning to take a lead. Jairo Cardozo grounded to first base with the bases loaded. Feliz Munoz bubbled the transfer which allowed Cardozo to reach and Zach Green to score from 3rd base and give the Cutters a 1-0 lead.
That would be enough for a Wiliamsport pitching staff that would sit down 24 straight batters from the 1st inning to the 9th inning.
Cutters starter Julio Reyes went six shutout innings allowing just one hit while striking out a season high nine batters. Reyes improved to 3-2 on the season with the win. Josh Warner replaced Reyes in the 7th inning. Warner would pitch two perfect innings of relief striking out two Muckdogs. Tyler Buckley earned his 4th save will working a scoreless 9th inning.
Muckdogs starter Ryan Newell went 3.2 innings before having to leave the game with an injury to his pitching hand. Newell surrendered one hit and struck out one Cutters batter before being replaced by Casey McCarthy. McCarthy went 2.1 innings of scoreless relief allowing two hits, a walk and striking out one. Miquel Del Pozo allowed the game's first run in his inning of relief. He allowed one run, unearned, onone hit. Del Pozo struck out two. Del Pozo fell to 2-1 on the season with the loss. Sean Townsley entered in the 8th inning.
