Norwich, CT - The Connecticut Tigers (7-7) defeated the Vermont Lake Monsters (7-7) by a score of 7-2 Thursday night at Dodd Stadium. Tigers RHP Austin Pritcher (1-1) pitched five solid innings where he gave two runs (one earned) on five hits and struck out three batters. It was Pritcher's first win of the season in three starts.
The Tigers trailed 2-1 entering the bottom of the fifth inning and put together a five run fifth inning to take a 6-2 lead. In the inning the Tigers got key contributions from RF Michael Gerber (3-4) who had an RBI double and an RBI single from 3B Joey Pankake (1-3). Gerber put together a three-hit performance that included three doubles in the game along with the fifth inning RBI and two runs scored.
It was the Tigers second consecutive series sweep and now have a four game winning streak. The Tigers used four pitchers in relief of Pritcher and put together four scoreless innings while giving up two hits and striking out four batters. The Tigers bullpen in the two-game sweep of Vermont pitched seven scoreless innings while giving up four hits.
The Tigers and Tri-City ValleyCats begin a three-game series at Dodd Stadium starting tomorrow night. In game one, Tigers RHP Confesor Lara (0-1, 6.00) is slated to face ValleyCats RHP Francis Ramirez (1-1, 1.17). Tomorrow night is Friday Fireworks!
