Baez, Hughes named D-Braves Players of the Month

DANVILLE, Va. - The Atlanta Braves Thursday announced their organizational players and pitchers of the month for July, with OF Leudys Baez and P Landon Hughes earning the honors for rookie-level Danville.

DANVILLE, Va. - The Atlanta Braves Thursday announced their organizational players and pitchers of the month for July, with OF Leudys Baez and P Landon Hughes earning the honors for rookie-level Danville.

Baez was promoted to the Class A Rome Braves Monday after batting .340 in 25 games in Danville this season. He lead the D-Braves with a .395 average in July, recording 30 hits in 76 at bats. Baez also led the team with 18 RBI and was second behind Drew Lugbauer with 4 home runs. He boasted a .395/ .471/ .684 slash line in July.
Hughes earned Pitcher of the Month honors after posting a 0.75 ERA and converting all three of his save opportunities in July. Hughes, a seventh-round pick in this year's MLB Draft out of Georgia Southern, allowed just one earned run in 12 innings pitched during the month, surrendering just 8 hits and 5 walks, while recording 14 strikeouts.
