DANVILLE, Va,- Despite no longer being in postseason contention, the Danville Braves are playing some of their best ball of the season, sweeping a doubleheader against Pulaski on Wednesday night. The pair of victories have given the Braves seven wins in their last eight games and guarantees them a winning record for the first time since 2014.

In the opener, a sacrifice fly and a passed ball gave the Braves an early 2-0 lead. Starter Odalvi Javier breezed through the first three innings, but ran into trouble in the 4th, surrendering one run and stranding two runners in scoring position. Reliever Keith Weisenberg couldn't hold onto the lead, coughing up a pair of runs in the 6th which gave Pulaski a 3-2 lead. But in the bottom of the 6th, Danville answered on a wild pitch by Bryan Blanton. Yankees' catcher Charles Vazquez retrieved the ball but then threw it away, allowing a second Braves' baserunner to score. That 4-3 score would be the final in game one, giving the Braves 35 wins to ensure a winning 2017 campaign.
In the nightcap, the Braves pounded out 13 hits, doing all their damage by the 4th inning. A trio of hits by Ray Michel and a 2-run home run by Drew Waters were the main contributing factors on offense, in addition to a pair of runs scored on a Kevin Maitan double. Jacob Belinda (6-0) earned the win in relief with three scoreless frames. When all was said and done, Danville had breezed to an 8-1 victory, giving them their first doubleheader sweep of the year.
