Four-Run Third Inning Helps D-Braves Over Burlington

DANVILLE, Va. - After a 52-minute rain delay, the Danville Braves scored four runs in the third inning, which were ultimately enough in its 6-2 win on Wednesday night at Legion Field.

CJ Alexander opened the scoring with a single on a line drive to centerfield, scoring Justin Dean and giving the D-Braves a 1-0 lead. Alexander later added another RBI off a double to deep right center field. In eight games with Danville this season, Alexander is hitting .353 with 12 hits and five RBIs.
While Zack Soria was batting, a wild pitch from Burlington's starter Bryar Johnson brought in Alexander and gave the D-Braves a 2-0 lead.
Rusber Estrada finished the inning off with a two-RBI single to shallow right field, scoring Soria and Carlos Baerga Jr., extending the D-Braves lead to 4-0. Estrada now has six RBIs this season. 
Andrew Moritz continued his hot hitting ways with his fifth multi-hit game of the year. The product of UNC Greensboro went 2-for-5 on the evening, with a one-out single to centerfield, capping the D-Braves scoring efforts at 6-1.
In his first start of the year, D-Braves pitcher Ryan Shetter pitched two scoreless innings. Shetter was relieved by Nolan Kingham, who ate up two more innings of work and allowed a run, but earned a strikeout. Jake Belinda pitched three innings and allowed two earned runs, but struck out a season-high five batters. Zach Guth was nails in his appearance and struck out three batters in two scoreless innings to close out the game.
The D-Braves improve to 12-9 this season, and will look to win the four-game series tomorrow against Burlington with first pitch starting at 7 p.m.
