September 5, 2013

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (Sept. 5, 2013) - Dash right-hander Jake Cose parlayed a strong month of August into the Carolina League's Topps Player of the Month award, the league office announced Thursday. Cose becomes the second Winston-Salem player to earn the CL's monthly honor in 2013.

In six August starts, Cose went 4-1 with a 2.35 earned run average over 38 and a third innings of work. During this span, the Stockton, Calif., native struck out 27 and limited opposing hitters to a .182 average.

Cose's first four starts propelled him to the first monthly honor of his minor league career. He posted four consecutive seven-inning starts and surrendered a total of one run on 14 hits. From August 1-20, no pitcher in Minor League Baseball with at least 20 innings of work had a lower ERA than Cose (0.32).

Between Low-A Kannapolis and Winston-Salem, Cose went 11-8 with a 3.28 ERA in 27 starts this season. Throughout the season, opponents hit just .223 against the former 27th-round pick, who finished in a tie for fourth in all of Class A baseball with 159.1 innings pitched.

Cose joins infielder Jeremy Farrell as the two Dash players who claimed the Carolina League's monthly honor. A midseason Carolina League All-Star, Farrell hit .320 with five homers and a league-high 23 RBIs in May en route to the Topps Player of the Month honor.

The Dash will open their fifth season at BB&T Ballpark in April of 2014. Winston-Salem's 2014 schedule will be announced later this month. For season ticket information, call (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com.
