American Idol contestant named NA Tryout judge

W-S resident Tiquila Wilson will judge at Hanes Mall on March 1
February 6, 2014

The Winston-Salem Dash are proud to announce that Tiquila Wilson, who is a contestant on this season of FOX's hit show American Idol, will be a celebrity judge during the Winston-Salem Journal National Anthem Tryouts, which are set for Saturday, March 1, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The tryouts will take place on the lower level of Hanes Mall below the food court.

Wilson, 24, is a Winston-Salem native who advanced through a preliminary round held at the Dixie Classic Fairgrounds. She then appeared on American Idol's episode on January 29 and sang Adele's hit song "Someone Like You" for the show's three judges-notable artists Harry Connick, Jr., Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban. Her audition is available on YouTube, and it has received more than 44,000 views as of Thursday afternoon.

She impressed the trio enough to earn a spot in the show's "Hollywood Round," which is currently underway. Wilson sang on American Idol's most recent episode, which aired Wednesday night. She is one of 104 contestants remaining on this the popular series' 13th season.

Registration is underway for the Winston-Salem Journal National Anthem Tryouts, and only 150 entrants will be guaranteed an audition. The registration page is available through the Journal's website here.

All winners will have the opportunity to sing the National Anthem at one of the Dash's 70 scheduled home games. The top five highest-scoring contestants will be eligible for the Grand Prize, a second singing opportunity before the Dash's Fourth of July game, one of the most popular dates on the Dash's calendar each year. It also includes four Dash hats and four Founders Club tickets to the night of your second performance.

The Dash's season begins on Thursday, April 3, at BB&T Ballpark when Winston-Salem begins a four-game series with the Wilmington Blue Rocks. Ticket packages as low as $77 are on sale now, and fans can call the Dash at (336) 714-2287 today to purchase their tickets.
