The Winston-Salem Dash and the Winston-Salem Journal are teaming up to host the 2014 National Anthem Tryouts, which are set for Saturday, March 1, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The tryouts will take place on the lower level of Hanes Mall below the food court.
Registration is underway for the Winston-Salem Journal National Anthem Tryouts, and only 150 entrants will be guaranteed an audition. The registration page is available through the Journal's website here.
If you are among the first 150 individuals to register for a tryout, you will be notified by e-mail or phone and assigned a performance time. Those who are not contacted by the Dash can attend the tryouts and register as a stand-by performer.
All winners will have the opportunity to sing the National Anthem at one of the Dash's 70 scheduled home games. The top five highest-scoring contestants will be eligible for the Grand Prize, a second signing opportunity before the Dash's Fourth of July game, one of the most popular dates on the Dash's calendar each year. It also includes four Dash hats and four Founders Club tickets to the night of your second performance.
Entrants can sing with a group or play an instrument if desired, but there will be no music provided during the audition. All performances will be recorded, and a celebrity panel of judges will be present. All contestants are asked to dress as if it were game day, and there will be a 90-second time limit. The Dash will reach out to all participants within two weeks of the tryouts to inform them if they have been named one of the winners.
There are no age restrictions, but a parent or guardian must be present at the tryout if a participant is younger than 18 years of age. For more information on the National Anthem Tryouts, call Dash Director of Entertainment Gabriel Wilhelm at (336) 714-6886.
The Dash's season begins on Thursday, April 3, at BB&T Ballpark when Winston-Salem begins a four-game series with the Wilmington Blue Rocks. Ticket packages as low as $77 are on sale now, and fans can call the Dash at (336) 714-2287 today to purchase their tickets.
