Appleton, Wisc.-The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers built a 5-1 lead over the first three innings and held off a late Dayton comeback bid to defeat the Dragons 6-4 on Wednesday night. The game was the start of a three-game series and the opener to a six-game road trip for the Dragons.
Wisconsin scored two runs in the first inning, two more in the second, and one in the third to build their lead. They led 6-1 when the Dragons started back in the top of the eighth. Hendrik Clementina led off the inning with a home run for Dayton to make it 6-2.
In the ninth, Clementina singled with two outs to again bring the tying run to the plate, but Piatnik struck out to end the game.

The Dragons eight-hit attack was led by Clementina, who had two hits including his 12th home run of the season. Lopez also had two hits. Downs had a double and scored the first Dayton run in the second inning.
The Dragons fell to 12-14 in the second half. They remained one game out of the wildcard slot in the Midwest League East Division Second Half playoff chase.
