Today's Game: The Dayton Dragons (affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) meet the Lake County Captains (affiliate of the Cleveland Indians) in the second game of a three-game series. 
Last Game: Wednesday: Dayton 7, Lake County 0. Dragons pitchers Patrick McGuff (7 IP) and John Ghyzel (2 IP) combined on a three-hit shutout. The Dragons led 3-0 before scoring four runs in the seventh inning when their first four hitters combined to hit for the cycle (home run by Leandro Santana, triple by Reshard Munroe, single by Raul Wallace, double by Jose Garcia). Lake County did not advance a runner past second base in the game. The Dragons snapped an eight-game losing streak with the win.
Playoff Chase: The Dragons must finish in the top two among eligible teams in the East Division in the Second Half (six teams competing; Bowling Green and Lansing ineligible). The Dragons are currently four games behind Fort Wayne in the race for the #2 seed in the Second Half. There are 18 games to play.

  • Last night's Dayton win snapped an eight-game losing streak. Six of the eight losses came by one run.
  • The Dragons seven-run attack last night marked their highest run total in a game since August 1 (first game of last road trip) at Fort Wayne, when they scored seven runs in a 10-inning win. They last scored seven in a nine-inning game on July 31, their last home game before last night.

2018 Individual Notes

  • Alejo Lopez over his last 28 games since July 15: 39 for 102, .382, to raise his average from .247 to .324. Lopez's .382 average since July 15 ranks second among players on the 30 teams at the Single-A classification (Midwest League and South Atlantic League) and 7th among all players playing at the full-season level in Minor League Baseball (120 teams). Lopez had a 14-game hitting streak end on Sunday (0 for 2, walk). He went 24 for 58 (.414) during the hitting streak. This was the longest streak by a Dragons player in 2018 and tied for 16th longest in franchise history.
  • J.D. Williams over his last 11 games: 14 for 37, .378, to raise his average from .203 to .261.
  • Andy Sugilio has hit safely in eight straight games, going 11 for 33, .333.
