Today's Game: The Dayton Dragons (affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) meet the South Bend Cubs (affiliate of the Chicago Cubs) in the last game of a three-game series. Season Series to Date:  Dayton 5, South Bend 0. Current Series to Date:  Dayton 2, South Bend 0.
Last Game:  Wednesday: Dayton 2, South Bend 1. Four Dragons pitchers combined to allow just one run, scattering eight hits over the first six innings before retiring the final 10 batters of the game. South Bend stranded 10 runners and had men in scoring position in each of the first six innings. Starting pitcher Tyler Mondile worked five scoreless innings for the win. Reliever Dauri Moreta was brilliant, striking out six of the seven batters he faced over a perfect outing, and Ryan Nutof pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for the save. Jose Garcia had two hits including an RBI double for Dayton.
2018 Team Notes

  • Dragons pitchers have allowed just one earned run in the current series over two games (18 innings), posting an ERA of 0.50.
  • The Dragons have committed just two errors in their last seven games.   
  • The Dragons have been the streakiest team in professional baseball in 2018. They started the year with a three-game losing streak, won the next nine games, lost the next eight, won nine of 10, lost the next eight, won seven of eight, lost the next three, won four of six, lost the next seven, and have won the last two.
  • The Dragons team ERA in their 31 wins is 3.21 (278 IP, 99 ER). The ERA in the 33 losses is 7.26 (277.2 IP, 224 ER).
  • The Dragons are 4-19 against Bowling Green and Lansing this season; 27-14 against the rest of the league.

2018 Individual Notes

  • Hendrik Clementina is hitting .322 on the year with a .603 slugging percentage. He is tied for fourth in the MWL in home runs with nine despite not having enough plate appearances to qualify for the batting lead. With his current averages, he would rank tied for fourth in the league in batting average and second in slugging percentage if he qualified. 
  • Hunter Greene over his last four starts: 19.1 IP, 13 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 7 BB, 24 SO, 1.86 ERA.
  • Dauri Moreta in his last three relief appearances: 5.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 11 SO.
  • John Ghyzel ranks first in the MWL lead in saves with 12.
