Today's Game: The Dayton Dragons (affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) meet the South Bend Cubs (affiliate of the Chicago Cubs) in the last game of a four-game series. This is game four of the 2018 Second Half season. 
Season Series to Date:  Dayton 5, South Bend 4 (at Dayton: Dragons 3, Cubs 3). Current Series to Date: South Bend 3, Dayton 0.
Last Game:Saturday: South Bend 5, Dayton 2. Four Cubs pitchers combined to scatter nine hits. South Bend scored two runs in the sixth to break a 1-1 tie and take the lead for good. Jeter Downs had a solo home run in the third inning for Dayton. Andy Sugilio had two hits including a double, and he scored one run. Leandro Santana and Raul Wallace also had two hits for Dayton.   
Low Scoring Matchups:  Saturday night's game was the first of the nine meetings this season between Dayton and South Bend in which the two teams combined to score more than five runs. In seven of the nine games, the winning team scored three runs or less. Six of the nine games have been decided by one run.

  • The Dragons have been the streakiest team in professional baseball in 2018. They started the year with a three-game losing streak, won the next nine games, lost the next eight, won nine of 10, lost the next eight, won seven of eight, lost the next three, won four of six, lost the next seven, won two, and have lost the last seven.
  • The Dragons team ERA in their 31 wins is 3.21 (278 IP, 99 ER). The ERA in the 40 losses is 6.88 (337.1 IP, 258 ER).

2018 Individual Notes

  • Hunter Greene over his last six starts: 30.1 IP, 25 H, 9 R, 8 ER, 7 BB, 34 SO, 2.37 ERA.
  • Leandro Santana is batting .333 (10 for 30) over his last eight games.
  • Cory Thompson has posted a 1.72 ERA in 26 relief appearances. He has not allowed a run over his last five outings covering nine innings (he also struck out the only batter he faced in the MWL All-Star Game on Tuesday at Lansing).
  • John Ghyzel is second in the MWL lead in saves with 12. Ghyzel was the winning pitcher in the MWL All-Star Game on Tuesday.
  • Montrell Marshall was selected as the MVP of Tuesday's MWL All-Star Game. Marshall drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the East Division team a 3-2 victory. Dragons reliever John Ghyzel pitched a scoreless top of the 10th for the East despite starting the inning with the mandatory runner at second base.
