Today's Game: The Dayton Dragons (affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) meet the Great Lakes Loons (affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers) in the third game of a four-game series. Series to Date: Dayton 1, Great Lakes 1.
Last Night:  Friday: Game 1: Great Lakes 9, Dayton 4. Game 2: Dayton 3, Great Lakes 0. The Dragons earned a split of the doubleheader when Tyler Mondile fired a one-hit shutout in game two, retiring 21 of the 22 batters in the game including the last 20 in a row. Mondile allowed a double to the second batter of the game and then was perfect the rest of the way, striking out eight for the first seven-inning shutout for a Dragons pitcher since Austin Orewiler in 2016. Leandro Santana had a home run, double, and two RBI in game two for the Dragons. Jose Garcia was 3 for 5 in the doubleheader.
2018 Team Notes

  • The Dragons have been the streakiest team in professional baseball in 2018. They started the year with a three-game losing streak, won the next nine games, lost the next eight, won nine of 10, lost the next eight, and won last night's second game.
  • The Dragons team ERA in their 19 wins is 3.47 (171 IP, 66 ER). The ERA in the 20 losses is 7.22 (168.1 IP, 135 ER).

2018 Individual Notes
  • Hendrik Clementina over his last 13 games: six home runs, one triple, 15 RBI, and nine walks.   Clementina is hitting .341 on the year with a .718 slugging percentage. He is tied for second in the MWL in home runs with eight and ranks in the top 10 in RBI with 26 despite being six plate appearances short of qualifying for the batting lead. He would rank seventh in the league in batting average and first in slugging percentage (by 69 points).
  • Miles Gordon over his last 11 games: 14 for 40, .350 to raise his average from .132 to .198.
  • Michael Beltre over his last eight games: 11 for 30, .367. Beltre has a 33-game on-base streak that is the longest active streak in the league.
  • Stuart Fairchild over his last six games: 8 for 24 (.333) with three doubles.
  • John Ghyzel is second in the MWL lead in saves with six. In 14 appearances, he has a 1.93 ERA.
  • Cory Thompson has allowed earned runs in just one of his 15 relief appearances, posting a 1.40 ERA. 
  • Ryan Nutof has allowed earned runs in just two of his 14 relief appearances, posting a 1.54 ERA.
  • Dragons top performers in May:  Hendrik Clementina (.341, 6 HR, 14 RBI); Michael Beltre (.344, 2 HR, 10 RBI); Leandro Santana (.333, 2 HR, 4 RBI); Jeter Downs (.291, 4 HR, 8 RBI); John Ghyzel (2 wins, 2 saves, 1.42 ERA). Team in May: 9-9; Batting: .250, 20 HR, 18 G. Team ERA: 5.61.
