Dayton, Ohio—The Dayton Dragons and Lake County Captains split a doubleheader on Wednesday night. The Dragons earned a 4-3 walk-off win in the first game when Nick Quintana delivered a two-out single to drive in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth of a scheduled seven-inning game. Lake County won the second game, 3-0.

A crowd of 7,590 was in attendance at Day Air Ballpark in the heart of the Water Street District.

The Dayton second game loss eliminated the Dragons from first half playoff contention. The Great Lakes Loons won their game at Fort Wayne, 4-2, as the Loons earned their 12th win in their last 13 games, giving Great Lakes a one-game lead over the Dragons with one game to play in the first half season. Since Great Lakes wins the tie-breaker, they clinched the first half East Division title on Wednesday night.

*Doubleheader Recap: *The Dragons and Loons went to extra innings in the first game of the doubleheader, tied 3-3. In the top of the eighth, Dragons reliever Donovan Benoit (2-2) worked around the free runner at second base to toss a scoreless frame. In the bottom of the eighth, Nick Quintana lined a two-out single to left field to drive in Allan Cerda from third to end the game.

Quintana was 3 for 3 in the game with two runs batted in and a run scored.

Lake County won the second game 3-0. The Dragons were limited to three hits. They did have six at-bats with runners in scoring position but could not deliver a key hit, going 0 for 6.

Starting pitcher Connor Phillips (4-3) was charged with the loss. He allowed one run in four innings on five hits with three walks and six strikeouts.

The Dragons are 39-26 after Wednesday’s games including a 21-14 record at home.
