Bowling Green, Ky.-Bowling Green's Moises Gomez drilled a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie and the Hot Rods held on to defeat the Dayton Dragons 3-2 on Saturday night. The loss was just the second in the last nine games for the Dragons and evened the series in Bowling Green at one game apiece.
The Dragons took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Montrell Marshall doubled to the center field fence, went to third on John Sansone's ground out, and scored on a hit to center by Hendrik Clementina. Bowling Green scored one run in the bottom of the second and added another in the fourth to take a 2-1 lead.
The Dragons tied the game in the top of the sixth and had a chance to get the lead but came up short. Michael Beltre tripled to right field to start the inning and scored on Stuart Fairchild's single to make it 2-2. Marshall then lined one off the pitcher for an infield single that moved Fairchild to second. Sansone's sacrifice advanced the runners to second and third with one out, but Clementina struck out and Leandro Santana grounded out to shortstop to end the inning and strand two runners in scoring position.
Gomez led off the bottom of the sixth with a home run to give Bowling Green a 3-2 lead, and neither team had a hit over the rest of the night. Bowling Green reliever Jose Disla earned the save by retiring all nine batters he faced including five on strikeouts.
Dragons starting pitcher Adrian Rodriguez (2-1) was charged with the loss. He worked five and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on six hits with no walks and five strikeouts.
The Dragons collected eight hits. Marshall was 2 for 4 with a double. Fairchild's hit extended his hitting streak to nine straight games.
