LAKELAND, FL - LHP Scott Moss allowed just one run on four hits in six innings with five strikeouts and a pair of walks on Wednesday night but did not factor in the decision at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium. Chad Sedio's RBI single in the tenth gave the Flying Tigers a 2-1, walk-off victory.
Daytona's only hit came in the top of the first, a two-out, solo home run from Courtney Hawkins off RHP Spenser Watkins to give the Tortugas an early 1-0 lead.
Lakeland tied it in the sixth. Troy Montgomery drew a one-out walk, moved first-to-third on a Daniel Pinero single, and scored on a Jose Azocar sacrifice fly.
The Flying Tigers won it in the tenth. Derek Hill was the placed runner at second base, moved to third on a Luke Burch sacrifice bunt, and scored two pitches later when Sedio hit a single down the first base line off RHP Joel Kuhnel.
RHP Eduardo Jiménez (3-4) picks up the win in relief. Jimenez tossed two scoreless innings in relief, he walked one and struck out two. Kuhnel (0-3) takes the loss. He allowed a hit and an unearned run with three strikeouts in 1 ⅓ innings.
RHP Andrew Jordan (1-4, 6.10) will get the ball tomorrow night for the Tortugas as they look to avoid the four-game sweep. Lakeland will counter with RHP Casey Mize (0-1, 4.82).
First pitch Thursday is scheduled for 6:30 PM with coverage beginning at 6:15 PM with the Metcare Pregame Show on AM 1230, AM 1490, and FM 106.9 WSBB.
