CLEARWATER, FL - Rehabber Rookie Davis gave up five runs in five innings in Daytona's 5-1 loss against the Clearwater Threshers Tuesday night at Spectrum Field. The Tortugas have now lost five of their last six games.
Alberti Chavez kicked off the night's scoring with a solo home run on the first pitch in the bottom of the third against RHP Felix Paulino.
Clearwater scored two to take the lead in the fourth. Luke Williams led off the inning with a single, stole second, and came in to score on a two-run homer by Mickey Moniak to right field, his fourth of the year. 
The Threshers added three more in the last of the fifth. With one-out, and runners on the corners, Kevin Markham hit a two-run double down the right field line. Daniel Sweet over ran the ball, allowing Markham to come all the way around and score on the play, making it 5-1. 
Paulino (1-3) earned his first win with Clearwater. He allowed one run on six hits in six innings with two walks and four strikeouts. Davis (0-1) was handed the loss in his Daytona debut. He allowed five runs (four earned) on five hits in five innings with three strikeouts and a walk.
RHP Andrew Jordan (1-1, 2.45) will start Wednesday night for the Tortugas against RHP Mauricio Llovera (2-7, 4.35), with Daytona looking to avoid the sweep. 
First pitch Wednesday is scheduled for 7 PM, with coverage beginning at 6:50 PM with The Metcare Pregame Show on AM 1230, AM 1490, and FM 106.9 WSBB.
NOTES: The Tortugas fell to 0-29 when trailing after 8 innings… Daytona has dropped 8 of the first 12 meetings with Clearwater this season… The Tortugas are 1-for-23 with runners in scoring position over their current three-game losing streak, leaving 25 on base.... RHP Rookie Davis became the second player with Big League experience to play for the Tortugas this year, joining Dilson Herrera. He became the second rehabber to pitch for Daytona during Tortuga history (Jon Moscot, 2016)… Alberti Chavez homered for the first time since 8/17/16 with the Dayton Dragons. It was his third home run in seven seasons… Taylor Trammell snapped an 0-for-20 stretch with a fourth inning single. He finished 2-for-4, his team leading 22nd multi-hit game… Tyler Stephenson finished 0-for-3, snapping his season-high 8 game hitting streak.
