BRADENTON, FL - The Daytona Tortugas crushed a trio of home runs for the second straight night to defeat the Bradenton Marauders, 4-2, Friday night at LECOM Park. Ibandel Isabel clubbed a pair of homers as RHP Tejay Antone allowed just one earned run in six innings for his second win of the year.
Daytona kicked off the night's scoring three batters in to the game. After RHP Nick Burdi struck out the first two batters, Bruce Yari smoked a solo homer to right field, his fourth of the season, to put his team up 1-0. It was Yari's first homer in six weeks.
However, it only took Bradenton three batters to score as well, tying the game in the bottom of the first. Antone walked Jared Oliva on four pitches to start the frame. Oliva then moved to second on an errant pick-off throw from Antone. Bligh Madris would capitalize with a base hit to center to drive Oliva in.
The Tortugas re-took the lead two batters into the top of the second inning when Ibandel Isabel hit a one-out solo home run, his 21st of the year, to go up 2-1.
Daytona extended the lead in the top of the fourth. Brantley Bell hit a one-out double and moved to third on an Isabel single. With runners on the corners, Morgan Lofstrom grounded out to third, driving in Bell to make it a 3-1 game.
The Marauders got one of the runs back in the bottom of the sixth. Antone walked Madris to start the inning. Two pitches later, Albert Baur hit a run scoring double off the wall in left, driving in Madris from first, to cut the deficit to 3-2.
The Tortugas added some insurance in the top of the eighth, when Isabel hit his second solo home run of the game to round out the scoring, 4-2.
Antone (2-2) allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits in six innings to earn the win. He walked a pair and struck out three. RHP Mike Wallace (4-7) took the loss, facing Daytona for the second straight time. He allowed two runs on seven hits in six innings. RHP Ryan Hendrix earned his eighth save after tossing a perfect bottom of the ninth with two strikeouts.
Daytona will go for the sweep Saturday night with LHP Wennington Romero (8-5, 4.13) on the mound against LHP Oddy Nunez (4-8, 4.47).
First pitch Saturday is scheduled for 6:30 PM, with coverage beginning at 6:15 PM with The Metcare Pregame Show on AM 1230, AM 1490, and FM 106.9 WSBB.
