Tortugas Homer their Way to Victory, 4-3

BRADENTON, FL -The Daytona Tortugas used a pair of home runs to defeat the Bradenton Mauraders, 4-3, in game one of a doubleheader Tuesday night at LECOM Park. Game two was then rained out and will be made up as part of a doubleheader Wednesday morning. 
The Marauders kicked off the scoring in the bottom of the second inning, when Jason Delay hit a solo home run to left field off LHP Ty Boyles.
In the bottom of the fourth, Bradenton scored again, to make it 2-0. Bligh Madris hit a one-out triple to left, then came in to score on a Hunter Owen double. Both hits were the first in 12 at-bats for the pair of Marauders.
 
Daytona would get on the board in the top of the fifth. TJ Friedl led off with a double to right field on the second pitch of the inning. Jose Siri followed with a two-run homer on the next pitch, hitting it to the same spot as Friedl, but further, for his first home run of the year. Taylor Trammell followed up with a single to left, ahead of a Tyler Stephenson two-run homer in the same direction, but deeper. 
In the bottom of the fifth, the Marauders hit their second homer off Boyles, when Jared Oliva hit a solo blast to left on the first pitch of the inning. It was his fourth home run in nine games.
Leading, 4-3, RHP Aaron Fossas and RHP Joel Kuhnel would combine for the final five outs of the game, including a 4-6-3 doubleplay induced by Kuhnel in the ninth. 
Boyles (2-2) earned his second straight win, tossing 5 1/3 innings, giving up seven hits, three runs, one walk, and two home runs, while striking out five. RHP Eduardo Vera (3-2) takes the loss, going six innings, allowing nine hits, four runs, two walks, two home runs, while striking out four. Kuhnel earned his fourth save, while Fossas notched a hold.
RHP Tony Santillan (3-1, 1.28 ERA) will get the start in game one of Wednesday's doubleheader, against Bradenton's RHP James Marvel (2-3, 4.31). In game two, LHP Kevin Canelon (0-0, 2.40) will get the ball for Daytona, against LHP Oddy Nunez (1-2, 4.09).
First pitch Wednesday is scheduled for 10:30 AM, with coverage beginning at 10:20 AM with The Metcare Pregame Show on AM 1230, AM 1490, and FM 106.9 WSBB. Game two will begin 30 minutes following the conclusion of game one.
NOTES: The Tortugas bullpen has given up just one earned run in their last 26 innings of work… Four of Jose Siri's eight hits have been XBH (3 2B, HR)… Tyler Stephenson snapped an 0-for-13 string with his two-run homer… Ty Boyles won his second straight start, after four straight winless outings… Tuesday was the Tortugas eleventh non-nine inning game of 2018 (of 36). They are 7-4 in such games… Daytona is now 19-1 when leading after six… Opponents have scored first in five of the last six Tortuga wins… Daytona is 8-0 on the first two days of the week.
