JUPITER, FL -The Tortugas went 23 straight batters without a hit in their 5-1 loss to the Palm Beach Cardinals Saturday night at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter.
The Cardinals kicked off the scoring in the bottom of the first against LHP Wennington Romero.  With runners on first and second, Johan Mieses came up and drove in Shane Billings with a one-out single to left.
Palm Beach would double the lead in the next inning. After Romero retired the first two of the inning, he walked Kramer Robertson to extend the frame. On the next pitch, Chase Pinder hit a double to left to score Robertson.
In the bottom of the third, Taylor Bryant hit a two-out two-run homer to left field to double the Palm Beach lead, 4-0.
Daytona would finally get on the board in the top of the eighth. The Tortugas loaded the bases with no outs, but Michael Beltre grounded back to the pitcher for the force at home. Then, TJ Friedl came up and drove in Alfredo Rodriguez with a sacrifice fly to left field to make it 4-1. Ibandel Isabel came up as the tying run, but wound up grounding out to end the threat.
Palm Beach got the run right back in the bottom of the eighth to round out the scoring at 5-1.  Bryant came up with runners on the corners and grounded into a double play, scoring Mieses from third.
LHP John Kilichowski (1-0) tossed three no-hit innings out of the bullpen to pick up the win. Romero (6-2) took the loss, allowing four hits, four runs, and a career-high five walks in six innings. RHP Jason Zgardowski earned his second save by retiring the final five batters of the game.
Daytona will look to avoid their first sweep and three game losing streak with LHP Ty Boyles (2-4, 6.55 ERA) on the mound Sunday. He'll be opposed by RHP Sam Tewes (0-0, 4.50 ERA).
First pitch Sunday is scheduled for 1 PM, with coverage beginning at 12:45 PM with The Metcare Pregame Show on AM 1230, AM 1490, and FM 106.9 WSBB.
NOTES: Bruce Yari struck out three times for the second time this year… TJ Friedl is 0-for-his-last-17… Taylor Trammell recorded his first stolen base since 5/19… Tyler Stephenson batted seventh, the lowest he's batted in the order in his Minor League career… Alfredo Rodriguez's eighth inning single snapped an 0-for-20 drought… Daytona fell to 0-6 when scoring just one run, and 0-19 when trailing after eight innings.
