SALISBURY, MD – A day after being upended in 11 innings, the Delmarva Shorebirds extracted some revenge on the Salem Red Sox in an 8-7, 11-inning victory on Sunday afternoon at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.

The win snapped a six-game losing streak for the Shorebirds (10-23) while the Red Sox (17-16) saw their six-game winning streak come to an end.

A run-scoring wild pitch got Salem on the board in the first and Delmarva tied it in the bottom half on an Isaac Bellony RBI double.

Salem retook the lead in the second on a Jose Garcia sacrifice fly.

Creed Willems socked his first career homer, a two-run shot, in the third to put Delmarva ahead 3-2.

Willems doubled the Shorebirds lead in the fifth with an RBI triple.

The Red Sox tied the game in the eighth. Blaze Jordan started the rally with a solo homer, his third of the season and Jose Garcia tied the game with an RBI single after a walk and wild pitch.

Marcelo Mayer gave the Red Sox the lead in the top of the ninth as he laced an RBI double to make it 5-4.

Bellony had the first of his two clutch moments in the bottom of the ninth. With Darell Hernaiz at first and one away, Bellony roped a double to right, scoring Hernaiz and tying the game.

Both teams went scoreless in the tenth sending the game to the eleventh. Salem scored twice in their frame on an RBI fielder’s choice for Mayer and a sacrifice fly for Tyler Miller.

In the bottom half, the Shorebirds put two on with two out, setting the stage for Bellony. He socked a 3-0 pitch over the rightfield fence for a three-run homer, his fourth of the season, to win the game 8-7 for Delmarva.

Bellony’s blast was the first three-run homer of the season for Delmarva as well as their first walk-off victory.

Hugo Beltran (1-1) takes home the win for Delmarva after pitching the 11th and allowing two runs (one earned) on one hit and one walk.

Adenys Bautista (1-1) is saddled with the loss for Salem after allowing three runs (two earned) in two-thirds of an inning on one hit (Bellony’s homer) and a walk.

Following an off-day Monday, the Shorebirds continue their 12-game homestand on Tuesday, May 17 against the Fredericksburg Nationals. Starters for the series opener have yet to be announced. First pitch from Perdue Stadium is slated for 11:05 p.m. with pregame coverage beginning at 10:50 a.m. on MiLB.TV and theshorebirds.com with Sam Jellinek on the call.
