Kjerstad Extends Hitting Streak to 10 Games; ‘Birds Bludgeoned By Long Ball in 8-0 Loss to FredNats

SALISBURY, MD – The Delmarva Shorebirds offense collected just four hits (two from Heston Kjerstad) while the Fredericksburg Nationals blasted four homers in an 8-0 loss for the Shorebirds on Tuesday night at Virginia Credit Union Stadium.

The Shorebirds (1-3, 22-47) were shutout for the fourth time this season while the four homers hit by the Nationals (3-1, 36-34) were the most the ‘Birds had allowed in a single game.

The first run of the game was the only one not plated courtesy of the longball for the FredNats. Jeremy De La Rosa singled with two outs in the third and then stole second before being driven in by a Leandro Emiliani double.

Solo homers from Sammy Infante and TJ White extended the FredNats lead to 3-0 in the sixth.

The Nationals busted the game open as Infante homered again in the seventh, this time a three-run shot.

De La Rosa put the cherry on top for the Nationals with a two-run homer in the eighth, icing the game at 8-0.

Jackson Rutledge (2-5) spun seven scoreless innings for the Nationals to earn the win, allowing just three hits and a walk, striking out eight.

Dylan Heid (0-2) suffered the loss for the Shorebirds, allowing three runs on six hits and a walk, striking out two over four innings.

Despite the shutout, Kjerstad posted yet another multi-hit game, his third in a row and his seventh in his first 13 games, raising his average to 21-for-49 (.429).

The Shorebirds continue their six-game set against the Nationals on Wednesday, June 29 at Virginia Credit Union Stadium. Conor Grady (3-4, 6.00) is due up on the mound for the Shorebirds while the FredNats turn to Dustin Saenz (2-1, 3.05). First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. with pregame coverage beginning at 6:50 p.m. on theshorebirds.com with Sam Jellinek on the call.
