Brayan Hernandez Swats Third Homer of the Year; ‘Birds Drop Fourth Straight to GreenJackets

Isaac De Leon extends his hitting streak to nine games

SALISBURY, MD. – The Delmarva Shorebirds saw a consistent offensive attack from the Augusta GreenJackets lead to a 14-2 loss on Friday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. The loss sealed a series loss for the Shorebirds (34-65, 13-21) who have now loss seven straight against the GreenJackets (14-18, 50-48).

SALISBURY, MD. – The Delmarva Shorebirds saw a consistent offensive attack from the Augusta GreenJackets lead to a 14-2 loss on Friday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.

The loss sealed a series loss for the Shorebirds (34-65, 13-21) who have now loss seven straight against the GreenJackets (14-18, 50-48).

Augusta broke the ice on the scoreboard with four runs in the second. Braulio Vasquez ripped an RBI triple before he scored on a Francisco Floyd RBI double. Eliezel Stevens then drove in two with a base hit.

Isaac De Leon doubled to lead off the home second. After a hit batter, two groundballs moved De Leon around, with him ultimately scoring on an Elio Prado groundout to make it 4-1.

The GreenJackets answered right back in the top of the third to pull away again. After the first two reached on a hit batter and a walk, a dropped flyball allowed a run to score before Stevens ripped another two-run single to make it 7-1.

Augusta scored another run in the fourth when Geraldo Quintero walked, stole second and third, then sprinted home on a passed ball.

RBI doubles from Mahki Backstrom and Stevens preceded an RBI single for Kadon Morton in the seventh, making it 11-1.

Backstrom put the game fully on ice with a three-run homer in the eighth, his eighth of the season.

Brayan Hernandez homered to lead off the ‘Birds ninth, his third of the year, making it 14-2.

James Acuna (3-2) earned the win for Augusta with 2.1 innings of scoreless relief, striking out four and walking three, allowing just a hit.

Darlin Alcantara (0-2) suffered the loss for Delmarva, allowing seven runs (five earned) on five hits and three walks, striking out two.

The Shorebirds continue their series with the GreenJackets on Saturday, August 6 at Perdue Stadium. Juan De Los Santos (2-8, 4.35) takes the mound for Delmarva against Sam Strickland (3-2, 3.26) for Augusta. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m with pregame coverage beginning at 6:50 p.m. on MiLV.TV and theshorebirds.com with Sam Jellinek on the call.
