SALISBURY, MD. – The Delmarva Shorebirds couldn’t muster any offense in the resumption of their game with the Carolina Mudcats, falling 4-0, but did break out the bats in their regularly scheduled game, winning 6-4 over the Mudcats on Thursday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.

The win snapped the Shorebirds (35-69, 14-25) eight-game losing streak while the Mudcats (54-51, 20-19) saw their four-game winning streak come to a close.

Game One

All the scoring in the suspended game happened prior to the game becoming suspended on Wednesday night.

Jesus Chirinos doubled home a run in the first for the Mudcats to open the scoring before Robert Moore doubled home two more runs in the fourth. Chirinos added another RBI double in the fourth to make it 4-0.

Once the game was resumed in the bottom of the fifth on Thursday night, both teams couldn’t push anything across the plate with the game ending 4-0 in the Mudcats favor.

Pablo Garabitos (3-0) picked up the win in relief for the Mudcats, tossing five scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and a walk, striking out four.

Moises Chace (1-4) suffered the loss for Delmarva. Chace allowed four runs on four hits in 4.1 innings, walking three and striking out five.

Game Two

After being shutout, the Shorebirds got on the board right away in the first inning of game two. Noelberth Romero doubled with one away and an out later, Isaac De Leon singled him home to make it 1-0 Delmarva.

Carolina jumped in front in the third. Eduarqui Ferandez doubled to open the frame before an error allowed him to score with Jadher Areinamo reaching base. Areinamo then went to second on a wild pitch and one out later scored on a Hendry Mendez RBI single to put Carolina ahead 2-1.

The Shorebirds answered back immediately in the bottom of the third. Romero stroked his second double before Mishael Deson was hit by a pitch. De Leon then doubled them both home to put Delmarva on top 3-2. Three batters later, Stiven Acevedo singled home De Leon to make it 4-2.

Carolina fought back to tie the game in the fifth. Areinamo reached on an error to start the inning before Jose Sibrian singled him to third. Areinamo then scored on a groundout, but an error on the play allowed Sibrian to go to third. Robert Moore then doubled him home to tie the game at 4-4.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Shorebirds got back on top for good. Roberto Martinez was hit by a pitch to start the inning and Creed Willems then singled. After a popup, Romero singled home Martinez with Willems going to third. Deson then drove in Willems with a sacrifice fly, making it 6-4, the score by which the ‘Birds would win.
