SALISBURY, MD. – One night after firing a one-hit shutout themselves, the Delmarva Shorebirds were shutout 6-0 on just two hits by the Carolina Mudcats on Saturday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.

The loss forces the Shorebirds (36-70, 15-26) must-win situation on Sunday to avoid a series loss while the Mudcats (55-52, 21-20) have an opportunity for a series win in the finale.

The Mudcats started their scoring with two outs in the second. With runners at first and second, Jadher Areinamo singled to rightfield, bringing home Luis Castillo with the first run of the game. Jose Sibrian followed with another RBI single, with the ensuing throw to third going wild and allowing another run to score.

Two more came in for Carolina in the third. Eric Brown Jr. doubled to start the inning and went to third on a groundout. Jace Avina then hit a grounder with the infield in that saw Brown get caught in a rundown, but Brown danced out of the rundown thanks to an error and scored to make it 4-0. Back-to-back walks followed to load the bases. After a flyout, Sibrian walked to force home a run pushing the Mudcat lead to 5-0.

Hedbert Perez blasted a solo homer leading off the fifth for Carolina, his 13th of the season, bringing the final line to 6-0.

Alexander Cornielle (8-7) twirled six shutout innings for the Mudcats, picking up the win. He allowed just two hits, striking out 10.

Harol Arias (0-2) suffered the loss for Delmarva, allowing five runs (two earned) on four hits and four walks, striking out two.
