SALISBURY, MD - The Delmarva Shorebirds are pleased to announce that Gunnar Henderson has been named Low-A East League Player of the Month for May.

In 20 May games, Henderson slashed .313/.391/.613 with a Low-A East league-leading 30 RBI. He tallied three five-RBI games in the month.

Henderson’s season got off to a bang in the opening series with Salem. Henderson sent a two-run blast over the wall in his first Delmarva at-bat.

An even better series followed Henderson on the trip to Fredericksburg, earning him Player of the Week honors for the week of May 10-16. Henderson began the week in Fredericksburg with a game-winning three-run shot in a 7-5 ‘Birds win. The next day, he tied the Delmarva franchise record with three doubles in a single game.

After compiling three more multi-hit games in the Carolina series, Henderson went 3-5 with a double, home run and five driven in against the Hillcats on May 26.

The 2019 Orioles second-round pick (42nd Overall) finished the month of May ranking second in the Low-A East league in home runs, runs and total bases while finishing third in slugging percentage (.613).

Henderson, 19, ranks as the No. 93 prospect in baseball per Baseball America and No. 99 per MLB Pipeline.

Henderson and the Shorebirds are back in action on Wednesday, June 2 at 7:05 p.m. in the second of six games with the FredNats.
