Auburn Bullpen Comes Up Big In Victory

The Doubledays knocked off Vermont 5-3 Sunday at Centennial Field to even the series.

BURLINGTON, VT - The Doubledays knocked off Vermont 5-3 tonight at Centennial Field to even the series.

Auburn starting pitcher Austin Voth only pitched one inning as he threw 39 pitches in the first inning and finished with one strikeout and one walk. Cory Bafidis (2-0) earned the win as he tossed three innings of relief allowing two runs on one hit. The southpaw finished with one strikeout and two walks.

The Doubledays (11-21) took a 3-0 lead over Vermont (15-18) heading to the bottom of the third when the Lake Monsters trimmed the Doubledays lead to a 3-2. Two runs in the sixth made it a 5-2 lead for Auburn as David Napoli and L.J. Hollins were terrific out of the bullpen for the Doubledays. Napoli went 2.2 innings with two strikeouts while Hollins earned his third save of the season going 2.1 innings with four strikeouts. 

The Doubledays look for their first road series win of the season tomorrow night. Ryan Ullmann makes his first professional start for the Doubledays. First pitch is set for 7:05.
