Doubledays Announce the Return of the Hot Stove Dinner
Ball club brings back winter tradition with special guests Locastro, Holmberg and Nationals personnel
The Auburn Doubledays, the single-A short season affiliate of the Washington Nationals, is proud to announce the return of the Hot Stove Dinner. The event will be held on Friday, January 26th at the Hilton Garden Inn in beautiful downtown Auburn, NY. The price for attendance will be $40, and will include appetizers, a cash bar, a full dinner, silent auctions, and a great program from our guests.
Our guests will include a video interview with local ballplayer Timmy Locastro Jr., who will speak about his current journey to the Major Leagues. Former manager Dennis Holmberg will be coming back to Auburn in honor of the 10-year anniversary of the Doubledays 2007 New York-Penn League Championship. The Doubledays are also honored to welcome the Washington Nationals' Director of Player Development, Mark Scialabba , to speak about the development of the minor league system and the state of the Nationals organization, as well as the manager for the 2018 season.
Locastro was born and raised in Auburn, and most recently made his Major League debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers as a late call up this past September. "It's been a whirlwind year, but I'm really excited to be a part of it," Locastro said. He started off the year in Double-A for the Tulsa Drillers where he led the Texas League in runs and stolen bases before getting called up to Triple-A Oklahoma City. He batted .388 in 31 games for OKC. He was called up to the Los Angeles Dodgers roster in the last week of the regular season, being used primarily as a pinch runner. He officially has a stolen base to his Major League credit.
Dennis Holmberg has been a manager since 1977, and a Toronto farmhand manager for 33 seasons-spending 9 of them as the manager of the Auburn Doubledays. Holmberg led Auburn to winning records in 7 of those years, 6 consecutive division titles and a New York-Penn League Championship in 2007. "Looking back over the years Auburn was a terrific period in my life," Holmberg said of his time in Auburn. "Great fans, terrific front office support and competitive baseball." Holmberg also coached Locastro in Timmy's 1st professional season with the Bluefield Blue Jays. The two have maintained contact through the years.
"The Hot Stove Dinner is something that brings a baseball community together, and we are excited to be able to bring it back. There is so much history, and at the same time, so much to look forward to for baseball in Auburn." Said Adam Winslow, General Manager of the Auburn Doubledays. "This community has had many professional baseball players and another one is making his way now, what a great way to showcase some special people within our community. We are excited to show success stories of individuals from our community." Holmberg added, "The hot stove dinner was always the highlight of the season."
