Carter to call all 76 games of the Doubledays 2018 season
The Auburn Doubledays, Short Season Class A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, have hired Drew Carter as the team's broadcaster and manager of communications for the 2018 New York-Penn League season. Carter will call play-by-play of all 76 Doubledays games, which will stream live on the team's website and the MiLB.com First Pitch app, and oversee the team's media activities throughout the campaign. Carter will also play a pivotal role in the team's updated social media and digital marketing strategy, focused on video and audio content, to enhance the overall fan experience.
"Drew did a phenomenal job for us over the summer when filling in for Evan Stockton, and is interested in more than just broadcasting," said Adam Winslow, the Auburn Doubledays General Manager. "He is a bright and talented young man with a great deal to offer the Auburn Doubledays. We are excited to bring him in to the fold earlier than we have with many broadcasters in the past.
"We feel that his talents will bring a great deal to our community locally and the Doubledays fans across the country," Winslow continued. "Bringing our digital technology to the next level is paramount, and streaming gives us a great way to take another step forward with this plan and reach a wider audience."
Carter, currently a junior Broadcast & Digital Journalism major at Syracuse University, has served as the voice of a baseball team during each of the past two summers. This year, he called games for the Chatham Anglers of the Cape Cod Baseball League, the preeminent collegiate summer baseball league in America. In 2016, Carter did play-by-play for the New York Collegiate Baseball League's Syracuse Junior Chiefs.
Carter filled in for Auburn's 2017 broadcaster, Evan Stockton, on two games late in the season.
"There's no team I'd rather make my professional baseball debut with," Carter said. "Auburn's front office has been incredibly accommodating, and I appreciate their commitment to finding a new broadcaster just a few weeks after this past season ended. I can't wait to work with everyone at Falcon Park. I'm looking forward to carrying on the outstanding tradition of Auburn Doubledays broadcasting that Evan and Michael Tricarico set. I have big shoes to fill, but I'm looking forward to it - and I want to do even more, especially on social media."
