Kinston, North Carolina - Earlier today, the Down East Wood Ducks announced the hiring of Matt Present as the Lead Radio Broadcaster for the 2019 season. Present will serve as Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations for the Woodies.
Present is no stranger to the Carolina League as last season he served as a Broadcaster and Media Relations Assistant for the Lynchburg Hillcats. In addition to providing play by play and color commentary for all 70 Hillcats home games and select road games, he produced game notes, recaps, and press releases for the team. He also facilitated coverage for the team as the liaison between the team and local media outlets.
"We are very excited to have Matt on board for the 2019 season", said Wood Ducks Vice President Wade Howell. "He did a great job for Lynchburg last season and we are fortunate to have someone with his knowledge of the Carolina League join our team".
Before his role with Lynchburg, Present had served as a Broadcaster and Media Relations Assistant for the York Revolution, an independent league team in the Freedom Division of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, during the 2017 season. In addition, he provided Play by Play and Color Commentary for the online broadcasts of the Silver Springs-Takoma Thunderbolts, a member of the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball Summer League, for the 2013-16 seasons. Present has served on the organizations' Board of Directors since 2016.
"I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity, and excited to join the Wood Ducks." said Present. "I'm looking forward to building on a young organization, with a great foundation, and representing the city of Kinston in the Carolina League."
Beyond baseball, Present has also worked for IMG College during the 2018 season where he has served as the studio host for pregame, halftime and postgame coverage of all University of Charlotte football and basketball games. In addition, he serves as a producer and board operator for all 49ers' football and basketball games and their weekly coaches radio shows.
Present is originally from Silver Spring, Maryland and is a 2016 graduate of the University of Maryland where he eared a Journalism degree from the Phillip Merrill College of Journalism. He broadcasted a variety of sports at Maryland for the student radio station, and was a co-founder of the Maryland Baseball Network.
