Kinston, N.C. - The Wood Ducks offense was held in check, Monday, thanks to eight strong innings from Frederick starter Cameron Bishop , as Frederick pulled away late to win, 4-1.

Down East (34-27, 84-47) suffers a season-worst fifth consecutive loss, and pending the Fayetteville result tonight, could fall out of first place for the first time since July 9.
The Keys (23-37, 52-77) grabbed the lead early. Cole Billingsley singled to begin the ballgame, and then Sean Miller took his spot at first base after a fielder's choice. With two out, JC Escarra lined a single into left field to give Frederick a 1-0 lead.
The Wood Ducks would get the run right back. Sherten Apostel singled to lead off the second inning, extending his on-base streak to 26 consecutive games. Apostel advanced to third after a pair of groundouts, and scored on a wild pitch from Bishop (win, 2-9).
That was the only run the Keys lefty would surrender as he went on to work a career-high eight innings, giving up four hits and a walk, while striking out seven.

Reid Anderson (loss, 6-8) was also very good on the mound for Down East. After allowing the first inning run he would retire the next 11 hitters he faced. He went on to give up just two runs (one earned) on five hits, over seven innings, walking one and striking out three. Anderson recorded 15 ground ball outs, and no outs through the air.
The only other run he surrendered came as an unearned run in the seventh. Patrick Dorrian doubled with one out in the inning, and after a passed ball advanced him to third base, he came into score on a Ben Breazeale RBI single to left field to put the Keys back in front, 2-1.
Frederick would add on two more runs in the ninth. Michael Matuella walked a man and gave up a double to start the inning, and Francisco Villegas was unable to strand the inherited runners, giving up a bases loaded walk and a hit by pitch to plate a pair, making it 4-1, as the Keys sent eight men to the plate in the inning.
Diogenes Almengo (save, 13) gave up a single to Curtis Terry in the ninth, but struck out a pair to work a scoreless inning.
The Wood Ducks and Keys will face off in game two of the four game series Tuesday at 7 p.m. Down East will send righty Scott Engler (3-1, 2.11) to the mound to go against Frederick right-hander Blaine Knight (1-10, 5.90).
