WINSTON-SALEM, NC -Blake Rutherford's huge night at the plate paced the Dash (2-0, 43-29) in an 8-2 victory over the Wood Ducks (0-2, 35-37) on Friday night. The outfielder went 3-4 with three runs, four RBIs, and a home run to lead the Dash in a 13-hit performance.

Leody Taveras connected on a two-hit night and brought home his 25th run of the season in the third inning, but he was the only Wood Duck with multiple hits on the evening. His RBI single put the Woodies within one in the third, but it was the closest they would come in the contest.
The Dash added three in the bottom of the frame, led by a two-run double by Rutherford. Down East starter Walker Weickel did not enjoy the same success he had at BB&T Ballpark back on May 11th for his only win of the season.
Weickel pitched into the fourth inning and allowed nine hits and five earned in the loss. Three more runs were plated after his exit from the bullpen. Samir Vivas retired seven-of-nine batters faced despite a home run allowed.
Eric Jenkins would add a sac fly in the seventh inning for his seventh RBI with the Woodies. He finished the night 1-for-2 at the plate as well.
Cole Wiper could not slow the Dash either with two more scoring in his seventh inning. However, Michael Matuella struck out the side in the eighth on only 13 pitches.
Down East falls to two games under .500 for only the third time this season. Emerson Martinez (4-6, 4.28) will take the ball for the third game of the series on Saturday at a special start time: 4:00 p.m. He will face righty Jimmy Lambert (4-7, 4.02) as the Woodies look to start the path to split the series.
